Agrex Mobile Grain Dryers

Agex Mobile Grain Dryer

The Italian company Agrex has been producing its grain dryers for 58 years (since 1968). Thanks to a number of patents, their grain dryers not only demonstrate excellent production performance and fuel consumption, but also the highest reliability of components and assemblies.

Besides, they have some unique features which are not available from other manufacturers.

Unique Features of Agrex Mobile Grain Dryers

Technically, Agrex grain dryers have many interesting features that you must learn about from our experts. But the few most important ones are:

  • External Grain Recirculation Auger
  • Dual Mode Heat Exchanger
  • PTO by Default

Below, we describe these features in more detail.

External Grain Recirculation Auger

Mobile Grain Dryer Agrex

Agrex Srl produces grain dryers of both types – with both an internal and an external grain recirculation auger. The patented design with an external grain recirculation auger is more compact for transportation, ensures better grain drying modes, facilitates (reduces the cost of) maintenance of the grain dryer, and even allows the auger to be replaced with an elevator. As is known, an elevator is more gentle with the grain than an auger. Thus, it significantly reduces the percentage of grain that is damaged during drying.

Dual Mode Heat Exchanger

Agrex grain dryers are equipped with a patented heat exchanger that can be activated or deactivated. This allows you to dry high-temperature grains such as corn without using the heat exchanger. At the same time crops that require higher fire safety standards or cleaner grain can be dried with the heat exchanger engaged.

Additionally, the heat exchanger can be installed even after purchasing the dryer if the need arises in the future. This feature is not available with many other manufacturers.

PTO by Default

Mobile grain dryer with power take-off

Power take-off (PTO) is a useful feature of mobile grain dryers that allows them to operate even when electricity from the public grid is disconnected. Most manufacturers either produce mobile dryers in an electric-only version or offer two different models: electric or PTO. Consequently, farmers face difficulties when the electricity grid or their tractor is temporarily unavailable.

Agrex grain dryers are equipped with both PTO and electrical systems. Therefore, customers can operate the dryer at any time, using either electricity or tractor power take-off.

Agrex Grain Dryer Characteristics

The table reflects general characteristics of Agrex grain dryers.

It is very important to pay attention to the air flow through the grain (m3/hour). This is an indirect indicator of how quickly the grain dryer will dry the grain.

Why is this indicator so important? Because not all manufacturers provide enough airflow. This means less heat from the hot air will reach the grain. According to the laws of physics, a grain dryer with low airflow will have lower performance.

New Agrex Factory

In 2021, the company Agrex merged with the large Italian manufacturer Tecnolam. Thanks to this merger, Tecnolam acquired all the knowledge and expertise of Agrex, while Agrex gained access to high-quality precision equipment for the production of grain dryers and fertilizer spreaders.

Design and Operating Principle of Agrex Grain Dryer

Agrex Srl was established 58 years ago and has since gained extensive experience in agricultural machinery and grain dryers. The company understands industrial design and how to produce strong and reliable machines. The components of the machine are designed with ample provision to ensure continuous operation for many years.

Agrex grain dryers operate in a batch mode. This means that there is no need to maintain a continuous supply of wet grain or a constant removal of dry grain, unlike in continuous flow grain dryers. The batch mode is particularly convenient for small farms or for specific needs within large agricultural companies.

Agrex grain dryer design

Like all batch dryers, each cycle consists of four stages:

  1. Loading the grain dryer. During this stage, the loading augers are operational, while the fans and burner are turned off.
  2. Drying the grain. Once the dryer is loaded, the air supply fans and burner are turned on. This starts the process of blowing hot air and drying the grain.
  3. Cooling. The fan continues to operate, but the burner is turned off. At this point, cold air starts to enter the dryer, and the grain begins to cool down.
  4. Unloading. The fan is turned off and the dryer’s grain transport mechanisms are switched to unloading mode.
